Karen Stamper

Karen gets inspiration from worn surfaces, boatyards, allotments, and foreign lands. She may have a scene, a place, or a memory in mind, but this does not dominate. The combination of paper collage and paint draw her in deeper and leads her in new directions. Her work is skillfully built up using these rich layers. She deliberates over compositions, and elements, concealing, revealing and recomposing, avoiding representational clarity. Karen yearns to capture the memory of a place and the sense of human presence, echoing the passing of time.
